Side Hustles Make No Sense!
Let’s talk about side hustles. It seems like everyone has one (or wants one) these days. A little something you can do on the side to bring in some extra money.
I am fully on board with side hustles. Anything you can do to put more money into your pocket is always good. …But not when you already have a business! Why would you start a “side hustle” when you already have a business? It makes no sense!
Instead of thinking about a side hustle, I want you to start thinking about a hybrid model. Here’s what I mean…
The concept of a side hustle is great. But the idea of keeping it “on the side” or “separate” from your business makes no sense. Instead of keeping things separate, you can just combine them with a hybrid model and double or triple your take-home pay.
A hybrid model is when your business has multiple revenue streams that come in different shapes and sizes. Instead of thinking of all of these revenue streams as separate “side hustles” you can simply combine them all into one business that has multiple faces. And there are many benefits to doing this.
Here’s an example.
As a physical therapist, you have a lot of knowledge about how people move, train, and heal. But for the most part, physical therapists only focus on helping people that are in pain. What if you, instead, looked into preventative care? Or what if you looked into helping people train?
Let’s say you get the idea to create an online workout program. A lot of people would think of this as a side hustle and build it out as a completely separate entity from their business.
But what if you built it INTO your business? Instead of just running a physical therapy practice, you now run a physical therapy practice that also offers an online workout program. Your patients can use the workout program, but they don’t have to—and vice versa, your workout customers can use your physical therapy practice, but they don’t have to.
Starting to see what I mean? Now, here’s why this example in particular is so brilliant.
Let’s say you build out an online workout program that costs $100 per month. Maybe it’s an app where they get a daily workout, or maybe they get a 1on1 call with you every week—that’s all up to you, and the pricing can vary.
Now, you can do advertising and marketing for this workout program and start getting people that are solely interested in getting healthier and working out. You could probably make some good money off of them, right?
But what happens when they get injured? Well, if this is your side hustle, they’ll probably go off on their own to get the help they need. But if this is part of your business, then they already know a physical therapist! And not only do they know a physical therapist, but they’ve worked with them for a while now. Why would they go anywhere else? Of course they’re going to come to you.
And it works both ways.
If one of your physical therapy patients is looking to get more fit, you can simply enroll them in your online workout program.
This is just one example of how a hybrid model can provide a massive revenue boost to your business. But if these were built out as two separate entities, you’d be missing out on a ton of additional revenue.
So, the next time you start thinking about a side hustle, think about how you might be able to incorporate it into your business instead. Think about what you could do with a hybrid model. Think about all the revenue streams you could create under your one business. I guarantee you’ll be better off creating a small hybrid system than if you were to create a million side hustles.
What do you think? Is this a system that could work for you? Do you have any side hustles now, and if so, could they be incorporated into your main business?
